KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia—Opposition leader Mahathir Mohamad was sworn in Thursday for a new chapter as Malaysia’s prime minister, following a stunning election victory against a long-ruling coalition that he had once led.
Dr. Mahathir, 92 years old, took the oath of office from King Sultan Muhammad V in a ceremony broadcast on national TV after a long wait at the royal palace as certified results of his victory were presented and each of the leaders of the parties in his alliance declared their desire for him to serve as premier.
