Liverpool news: Mark Lawrenson makes HUGE Real Madrid Champions League claim
REAL MADRID and Liverpool are among the teams that have helped change football during this year’s Champions League.
That’s the view of Reds legend Mark Lawrenson who has seen the pair progress to this year’s final.
They will do battle for the trophy in Kiev on May 26 with both teams possessing powerful attacking line-ups.
Liverpool have scored 40 goals in this year’s Champions League with their 7-6 semi-final win over Roma containing a record-equalling amount of goals.
Real Madrid also know exactly how to attack with Cristiano Ronaldo having bagged 15 Champions League goals alone.

And Lawrenson believes that the way these teams, including Barcelona, play the game is changing football long-term.
“Our attacking play has been absolutely brilliant, we have blown teams away. We’ve had our defensive deficiencies – such is life,” Lawrenson told Liverpool’s official website.
“But I think the Champions League has changed football in the last three months.
“If you look at the quarter-finals and semis, the number of goals that teams have scored is absolutely amazing.
“It’s almost like: ‘You score four, we’ll score five.’ That’s the way we’ve been playing.
“I really do think in the last two or three months it has completely changed, due in large part to Manchester City, to Barcelona, to Real Madrid and definitely to us.”
Liverpool had to qualify for the Champions League but a remarkable run, which included wins over Manchester City and Basel, has seen them progress to the final.
They have scored over three goals per game on average and know Real Madrid’s defence are vulnerable to the threat of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.
