In what could be considered as the highest rainfall on a single day this summer, the Coimbatore district has received a rainfall of 399mm on Wednesday night. The total average rainfall recorded was 33.31mm on the same night. Head of the Agro Climate Research Centre at the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) S Panneerselvam said, “Similar rainfall has been predicted for two more days.” The district has received a good rainfall after three years. Till date, the district has received average rainfall of 220mm in the summer which is above the annual average rainfall of 130mm, he said. This year, the average rainfall was only marginally lesser than the last recorded peak rainfall of 262mm rainfall received in 2015. .Attributing the summer showers to the upper air circulation, he said a decrease in temperature was witnessed across the district.
