Indore: DAVV adds 200 more seats for PhD aspirants

Indore: There is good news for students wishing to pursue PhD from Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya. The university has added 200 more seats in PhD programmes, taking the total number to 702. At the time of release of notification for doctoral entrance test (DET) course in March, the number of seats was nearly 500, which has now reached 702 mark.

“At the time release of the notification, we had mentioned that the number of vacancies is tentative and the figure may change later. The figure changed drastically as we updated the list of vacant seats,” said VB Gupta, chairman of PhD cell at DAVV.

He said that many supervisors had not provided details of seats vacant with them before the release of the notification. “We updated the list after receiving information. Some new supervisors also registered themselves with the DAVV, which led to increase in the seats,” Gupta added. “We have received information about 50 more seats will be available by the time meeting of research degree committee (RDC) is held. We’ll update the list again,” he said.

Till last year, the DAVV used to conduct PhD programmes in 51 subjects. Two subjects of medical streams shifted to Madhya Pradesh Medical Science University, Jabalpur. Thus the number shot down to 49. Of the 49 subjects, the DAVV has offered PhD programmes in 44 subjects. In half a dozen subjects, there are no seats.

Admit cards issued for test

DAVV has issued admit cards for applicants of DET, which is to be held on May 13. Nearly 3000 candidates have registered for the test. Exam centres have been set up at university teaching departments at UTD campus.
