HUBBALLI/BENGALURU: Two days after CM Siddaramaiah's stay at Krishna Heritage resort on the outskirts of Badami, income tax sleuths conducted a raid on the resort on Monday night, and carried out searches for more than seven hours. The resort is linked to mining baron and former
BJP MLA Anand Singh, who recently joined
Congress to contest from Vijayanagara constituency in Ballari district.
I-T officials had a notice to question
KPCC general secretary
Parasmal Jain, who was staying at
Mayur Chalukya hotel. When they didn't find Jain in the hotel, they raided Krishna Heritage resort on Monday and searched all the rooms, including the one in which the CM had stayed on Sunday.
KPCC working president SR Patil, party leader CM Ibrahim and other leaders were staying at the resort when the raid took place. "I was not staying at Krishna Heritage. I had gone there to meet Patil. I-T officials were carrying out searches... They didn't find anything," Ibrahim said .
I-T sources said the raid continued till Tuesday, as part of a drive to smoke out cash hoarders. They seized Rs 20 lakh, which poll expenditure monitoring officials said was stashed in violation of the election model code of conduct.
Jain, addressing the media on Tuesday at Badami, claimed that I-T officials seized Rs 5 lakh kept for daily expenses from him.
