THE CROWN on Netflix has finally revealed its full cast for season three. But who will star in the new series and who will be replacing Claire Foy and Matt Smith in the royal roles?

The Crown has quickly become one of Netflix’s jewels and has captured viewers for two seasons. 

It will be going through a revamp when it comes back in 2019 as it will be replacing all of its cast members, which puts it in a unique position.

The point being that there will be a time shift, so the show has hired slightly older actors to reflect this. 

Although small details had trickled out about the cast details, the full line-up of the main characters has now been revealed. 

Here’s a list to everyone who will be starring in The Crown season three and what the stars' reactions were to being cast. 

Josh O'Connor - Prince Charles

Fans will be used to seeing Josh O'Connor on The Durrells on ITV.

And now he will be taking on the role of Prince Charles in seasons three and four of The Crown. 

The Daily Mail appear to have confirmed the news before Netflix have.

Youthful Josh would be perfect for the role, for Prince Charles being between the age of 16 and 22.

Olivia Colman - Queen Elizabeth II

Olivia Colman will take the lead role as Queen Elizabeth II in The Crown. 

She will be replacing Claire Foy who played the royal role for two seasons. 

Speaking of her announcement, Olivia said: “I am so thrilled to be a part of The Crown.

“I was utterly gripped watching it. A proper ‘just one more’ feeling. 

“I think Claire Foy is an absolute genius. She’s an incredible hard act to follow. I’m basically going to rematch every episode and copy her.”

Tobias Menzies - Prince Philip

Prince Phillip was initially played by Matt Smith in The Crown season one and two. 

However, his role will be taken over by Tobias Menzies, who is best known for Outlander.

He said: “I am thrilled to be joining the new cast of The Crown and to be working with Olivia Colman again.

“I look forward to becoming her ‘Liege man of Life and Limb’.”

Helena Bonham Carter - Princess Margaret 

The Crown on Netflix has bagged another Hollywood A-Lister for the third season. 

Helena Bonham Carter has been confirmed to play the role of Princess Margaret.

Speaking about the role, which she will take from Vanessa Kirby, the actress said: “I’m not sure which I’m more terrified about - doing justice to the real Princess Margaret or following in the shoes of Vanessa Kirby.

“The only thing I can guarantee is that I’ll be shorter than Vanessa,” she joked.

Jason Watkins - Prime Minister Harold Wilson

Jason Watkins will play Prime Minister Harold Wilson when The Crown returns to Netflix next year.

The completely new character will surely play a pivotal role in the upcoming action alongside Queen Elizabeth II. 

Speaking of his casting, Jason gushed: “I am delighted to become part of this exceptional show.

“Harold Wilson is a significant and fascinating character in our history so looking forward to bringing him to life through a decade that transformed us culturally and politically.

“And excited to working so closely with Olivia and the whole team.”

The Crown is expected to return to Netflix next year.
