Steve F. Polacek, 94, of Baden, died Tuesday, May 8, 2018, in Good Samaritan Hospice of Beaver. He was born December 11, 1923, in Morrisdale, Clearfield County, Pa., to the late John and Helen Mervo Polacek. He was a retired fitter for the American Bridge Division of United States Steel Corporation. Steve was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Baden; UNA Branch 161; Ambridge American Legion Post 641, Baden; and was an avid golfer. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He participated in the Battle of the Bulge and campaigns in Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe and was the recipient of two bronze stars. Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, were his wife, Josephine Polacek; five sisters, Mary, Helen, Ann, Agnes, and Catherine; three brothers, John, Paul, and Joseph; and a sister-in-law, Pauline Giammaria. Surviving are three daughters, Charlene (Richard) Hanzevack of Cape Coral, Fla.; Stephanie (John) Polachek of Ohioville, and Susan (John) Hood of Baden; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Eleanor Shemelya of Mesa, Ariz., and Frances Farelli of Sewickley; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Friday from 10 a.m. until time of prayers at 11 a.m. in the JOHN SYKA FUNERAL HOME INC., 833 Kennedy Drive, Ambridge. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11:30 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Linmore Avenue, Baden. Full military honors provided by the Beaver County Special Unit and the U.S. Amy will take place at the church immediately following the church committal. Private interment will follow in Good Samaritan Catholic Cemetery.
