CHENNAI: The Chennai City Traffic Police on Thursday launched a cashless payment system to help traffic violators pay fines “without any hassles.” Now, traffic violators don’t have to pay cash to traffic police personnel. And if they pay, it will be considered “bribe.”
After launching the cashless payment system, Chennai city police commissioner A K Viswanathan said, “We have introduced this to help traffic violators pay their fine without any hassles. If people want to pay the fine in the traditional method, they can do so in mobile courts.”

He said traffic police personnel should not receive cash from traffic violators. If anyone gave cash to police or police received cash from traffic violators, it would be considered “bribe” and legal action would be taken against both parties, he added.

The cashless payment system has been introduced in the wake of clashes and quarrels between cops and traffic violators over payment.

There is no need to make the payment instantly. They traffic violators can pay the fine by approaching any cop who holds a swiping machine.

They can also pay the fine at government run e-seva centres, through SBI online payment mode, on Paytm and at post offices and mobile courts.

Those who paid the fine should keep the receipt, either by taking a screenshot or a printout.

Police commissioner thanked state crime record bureau additional commissioner of police A Arun and joint commissioner of police R Sudhakar for taking immense efforts to roll out the system.
