Astonishing feats at Matric exam by father-son duo

A father and his son, of Baleswar district, achieved a rare academic success by becoming matriculates on the same day and securing same marks at this year’s matriculation examination. The results were published on Monday.

The results also brought cheers to a family of Salepur in Cuttack district when their twins - a son and a daughter - cleared the examination securing 90% and 88% marks, respectively.

Arun Kumar Bej (58), a BJP leader of Baleswar district, had not been able to complete his High School studies forty years ago due to untimely death of his father. His son Kumar Biswajit (28) too dropped out from a school a decade ago to join his father’s business. But last year when the youngest member their family cleared the matriculation examination, Arun and Biswajit turned out to be the only odd men in an otherwise all-matriculate joint family.

Determined to be matriculates for the prestige and honour of the family, the duo last year enrolled themselves in an Open School of their district to write the matriculation examinations this year. Both attended the school on Sundays and learnt the lessons. Surprisingly, both secured same 342 marks out of a possible 600 marks to pass in first division.

The matriculation examination results this year also brought cheers to school teacher Jharana Behera and Cuttack DIPRO Minaketan Behera when their twin children Siba Sundar and Subhalaxmi passed the examination with flying colours studying together at the Bahugram Saraswati Sisu Vidyamandir near Salepur.
