HC defers hearing in Najeeb case till May 11

Court took the decision on a plea by counsel appearing for CBI

The Delhi High Court on Tuesday deferred hearing on the Jawaharlal Nehru University missing student Najeeb Ahmed’s case till May 11.

A Bench of Justice S. Muralidhar and Justice I. S. Mehta adjourned the hearing on a plea by the counsel appearing for the CBI.

Mr. Ahmed had gone missing from the Mahi-Mandvi hostel of JNU on October 15, 2016, following a scuffle with some students, allegedly affiliated to the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). Mr. Ahmed was a student of MSc Biotechnology.

The missing student’s mother had moved the HC on November 25, 2016, seeking directions to the police to trace her son. However, as the Delhi Police remained clueless about his whereabouts even after seven months since he went missing, the probe was handed over to CBI on May 16, 2017.
