He was driving in the wrong carriageway; liqour bottles found inside his vehicle

A day after two people were killed and a woman pilot was injured in a head-on collision between their cab and a speeding car at Sikanderpur underpass, the police on Monday arrested the erring driver.

The accused car driver Mohammad Sazid was driving in the wrong carriageway, the police said.

After discharge

Sazid was arrested on Monday evening after he was discharged from a hospital where he had gone for treatment following the accident.

He purportedly told the police that he was returning from Rishikesh with two others, and heading towards Mehrauli-Gurugram Road, when the accident took place.

Some liquor bottles were reportedly found in his vehicle.

The police said that the accused entered the DLF Phase 1- Cyber City underpass by mistake as he missed the turn towards MG Road. He realised his error halfway through and decided to take a U-turn and headed in the wrong direction.

The accident

The accident had taken place around 5.30 a.m., in the underpass meant for commuters travelling between DLF Phase-1 and Cyber City, when the woman pilot, Suvarna Sripalli Gayatri, 31, was on her way to work.

The deceased were identified as Vinod Kumar Yadav, the cab driver, and Kishore Kumar Vishwas, the company’s security guard, travelling on the passenger seat.
