Funeral services set for Brian Whiston

Funeral arrangements have been set for the Michigan’s late state superintendent of schools, Brian Whiston.

The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Friday, May 11, at St. Perpetua Catholic Church in Waterford.

Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. both Wednesday and Thursday at the Riverside Chapel of the Simpson-Modetz Funeral Home at 5630 Pontiac Lake Road in Waterford.

Before the funeral, visitation will held at the church from noon until the Mass.

Whiston, a Waterford native, had previously worked at Oakland Schools and then as superintendent of Dearborn Public Schools.

“I, as well as all of Oakland Schools, are very saddened to hear about the passing of State Superintendent Brian Whiston,” said Oakland Schools Superintendent Wanda Cook-Robinson. “Many of us knew Brian personally from the many years he dedicated to working as director of Government and Community Services for Oakland Schools. Brian was one of public education’s fiercest supporters and the work he did for both our local communities and the state will have positive impacts for years to come.” (Continued below.)
