Man allegedly attempts to carjack elderly woman in Queanbeyan
An elderly woman screamed and pushed a man out of her car as he allegedly attempted to steal the vehicle in Queanbeyan on Tuesday.
Police said the incident happened when the 74-year-old woman returned to her Toyota Corolla, which was parked in a shopping centre car park on Monaro Street, about 6.30pm.
The man allegedly approached the driver's side door and demanded the car keys from the woman, who refused and shut the door as the man became increasingly agitated.
Police said the man then went to the other side of the car and sat in the front passenger seat, where he again demanded the keys.
When the woman screamed and pushed him out of the car, the man left the car park and was last seen walking along Morisset Street.
The suspect is described as Caucasian, about 20-30 years old and 165-170cm tall. He is of solid build and was clean shaven.
He was last seen wearing a dark-coloured top with a white stripe down the sleeves and white writing on the chest, and was carrying a black backpack.
