NEW DELHI: IT stocks got on to the front foot today.

Tata Consultancy Services (up 1.38 per cent), OFSS (1.18 per cent), Tata Elxsi (1.08 per cent), HCL Technologies (0.43 per cent) and Infosys (0.38 per cent) all firmed up in afternoon trade, lifting the sectoral index.

The Nifty IT index turned 0.44 per cent higher at 13,438 around 01:55 pm.

However, Mindtree (down 1.39 per cent), Wipro (0.66 per cent), Tech Mahindra (0.24 per cent), KPIT Technologies (0.06 per cent) and Infibeam Incorporation (0.06 per cent) slipped.

Buying in select auto, telecom, bank, IT and metal stocks lifted benchmark indices up.

The NSE Nifty index ruled in the green with a gain of 38 points at 10,756 while the BSE Sensex added 153 points at 35,370.

Among the 50 stocks of the Nifty index, 27 sprinted and 23 faltered.

Tata Motors (up 2.62 per cent), Tata Steel (1.60 per cent) and UPL (1.48 per cent) were the top gainers on the Nifty index. Bharat Petroleum Corporation (down 2.51 per cent), UltraTech Cement (1.87 per cent) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (1.03 per cent) turned out to be top losers.
