Motorists told to avoid Monaro Highway after serious crash
The Monaro highway south-bound at Hume has reopened, after motorists were advised to avoid it after a serious crash between two vehicles.
Police said traffic was slowly returning to normal and have thanked motorists for their patience. They have urged drivers to drive safely.
Emergency services were called to the highway at Tralee Street at Hume just after 4.30pm on Wednesday.
The accident involved a B-double truck and a black motorbike.
A man was treated by paramedics at the scene and transported to the Canberra Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Firefighters cleared oil and fuel off the road.
Both south-bound lanes on the Monaro Highway were closed for some time and there were significant traffic delays.
Traffic was backed up as far as Fyshwick as of 5.15pm.
