Grove City police arrested two occupants of a parked car on felony charges April 29.

While on patrol at 1:30 a.m., an officer observed the car in the parking lot of a store in the 1600 block of Stringtown Road. The driver appeared to be asleep or unconscious and a passenger in the back seat was looking down, according to reports.

The officer approached the vehicle and observed a glass bowl sitting on the driver's lap, reports stated.

The officer identified himself and the driver immediately woke up, acknowledging he used the bowl for smoking methamphetamine, according to reports.

The passenger gave conflicting information about his identity, but the officer was able to determine who he was and found he was wanted on outstanding warrants through Franklin County Municipal Court.

The officer conducted a probable-cause search of the car and found a plastic case on the front passenger floorboard that contained methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, reports stated. He also found a backpack on the back passenger seat that contained a laptop computer, two battery packs, two cellphones, a hard drive and a Wi-Fi device.

Dispatchers checked the serial number on the laptop and discovered it had been reported stolen by a Dublin resident.

The passenger was arrested and charged with a felony count of receiving stolen property and falsification, according to reports. The driver was charged with a felony count of drug abuse and a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia, reports stated.

In other recent Grove City police reports:

* A resident in the 3500 block of Magnolia Street reported April 25 she had discovered several fraudulent charges on her credit card account. The charges appeared to have been made online. The largest of the charges was for $1,308, reports stated.

* Police attempted to stop the driver of a SUV after checking the registration of the vehicle and finding the license plates had expired on Dec. 17, 2017.

At 9:50 p.m. April 26, an officer driving north on Parkmead Drive noticed the SUV stopped at a traffic signal at Stringtown and Parkmead. The officer checked the registration of the vehicle then turned around and caught up to the SUV at Stringtown and Gantz Road. He activated his emergency lights and initiated a traffic stop.

The SUV turned into a gas station but continued to drive through the parking lot toward Marlane Drive and the officer activated his siren as the SUV turned north onto Marlane, according to reports.

The SUV accelerated and failed to stop for a stop sign as it turned east onto Stringtown Road, reports stated. The vehicle went left of center as it veered around traffic stopped for a red light at Stringtown Road and Interstate 71. The officer lost sight of the vehicle, which was believed to have exited onto northbound I-71 from Stringtown.

The officer contacted the registered owner of the SUV, who said he had sold the vehicle about two months ago to a man between 35 and 40 years old via Craigslist. He said he did not know the man's name. He said he had left the license plates on the SUV because the man did not have his own plates, reports stated.

* A Hilliard woman came to the police department April 28 to report her purse, containing $150 and a tablet, was stolen April 27 from her car while she was at Scioto Grove Metro Park, 4127 Jackson Pike.

The woman said she was away from her car for about 35 minutes and returned to find one of the car's windows had been broken and the purse had been taken. She said her debit card had been used to make a purchase at a gas station on South High Street in Columbus, according to reports.

While an officer was taking the woman's report, another officer reported the woman's purse had been found by a customer laying outside near a business in the 1400 block of Stringtown Road. The purse was returned to the victim.

* A resident in the 1400 block of Great Hunter Drive reported three guns were stolen April 29 from his resident. Total loss was $1,150, reports stated.

* A Virginia woman reported her cellphone, valued at $672, was stolen April 29 from her car while it was parked at a store in the 1600 block of Stringtown Road.

* An officer responded April 29 to a store in the 4100 block of Buckeye Parkway where a Columbus man told him his stolen credit cards had been used to purchase items.

The man said he had received an alert from his bank that suspicious charges had been made on his account. He said he then realized two credit cards had been stolen from his wallet. He said he thought the theft occurred while the wallet was sitting in plain sight in his unlocked car while he was at Fryer Park, 3899 Orders Road, reports stated. He said $300 in cash was also taken from his wallet.
