TAUNTON — It was a game that literally slipped through the finger tips of the Coyle-Cassidy softball team on Tuesday.

Durfee scored two unearned runs late and pulled out a narrow 3-2 victory over the Warriors in a non-league matchup at Coyle-Cassidy High School.

"It was definitely a winnable game for us," C-C head coach Chris Pabst said. "That was a game we should have won 3-1. It was a tough way to go out today. We have to clean up as a club. Durfee is a good program but we didn't bring our A-game today."

Jackie Dumont, who came on in relief of starter Gabrielle Streeto in the fourth, picked up the win in the circle for the Hilltoppers (3-6). She allowed just a pair of hits while striking out six in in her 47-pitch performance.

Streeto also had a hit and scored two runs in the victory. Sam Flaven had a hit and RBI for the Warriors. Mina Pabst and Sarah Rebello also had hits.

C-C (5-6) appeared to be in control of the contest heading into the fifth inning.

Durfee could only muster a pair of hits off Warrior ace Kennedy Reyes and stranded five base runners through four innings.

But a pair of errors in the fifth led to Durfee tying the game at 2-2. In the sixth, the Hilltoppers took the lead when Kylie Dias walked home after C-C committed its fourth error of the game.

"We just been passive at the plate," Durfee head coach John Ferreira said. "It drives me crazy. Finally in the fifth and sixth inning, we started getting more aggressive. We have to attack the ball more instead of sitting back and waiting. But hey, a win is a win."

Reyes was solid in the circle for C-C. The senior right-hander gave up just two hits, an earned run, walked four and struck six batters in her 111-pitch outing. Reyes also induced 13 ground ball outs.

"She was amazing out there," Pabst said.

The Hilltoppers got on the board early when Streeto reached base on a hit and scored on a bloop RBI single to left by Dumont.

The Warriors went ahead 2-1 in the bottom of the first. Flaven doubled home Reyes, who reached base on a walk. Rebello's ground out plated Pabst with the second run of the inning.

The score remained the same until the late innings.
