ECONOMY — The owners of the Northern Lights shopping center have sold the parcel currently occupied by a Burger King restaurant.

According to a deed recorded with the county, PZ Northern Limited Partnership this week sold the parcel on Route 65 in Economy for $1.35 million to CJSP Properties. The land is slightly larger than 1 acre.

It’s not clear if the new owners intend to keep the Burger King restaurant. Northern Lights officials previously said they were selling certain parcels to help pay for extensive renovations to the interior portion of the shopping plaza.

The parcel where Taco Bell now sits sold last year for $1 million. In addition, Economy Council last year subdivided three parcels — the Burger King parcel, the WesBanco property and the Goodyear Tire property — in an effort to help the owners sell them.

Economy Manager Randy Kunkle on Tuesday said he believes the Burger King plot was sold so that the owners could use the money for the cost of renovations.

As part of the sales tax, the state will receive $13,500, Economy borough and the Ambridge Area School District will receive $6,750 each.

According to documents filed by the Pennsylvania Department of State, CJSP Properties was formed in August and is based in Cranberry Township in Butler County.
