Twin death: hospital gets clean chit

No medical negligence in newborn death case, says DMC

The Delhi Medical Council (DMC) has given a “clean chit” to Max Super Speciality Hospital, Shalimar Bagh, ruling out medical negligence on the part of doctors in the treatment administered to the complainant’s newborn baby.

The case pertains to 2017, when doctors at the hospital had allegedly wrongly declared a boy dead at birth on November 30. His twin was stillborn. The boy died a week later. Earlier, the council’s disciplinary committee decided to look into the matter and response was sought from the hospital and the staff involved in the case.

DMC registrar Girish Tyagi said, “We formed an expert panel comprising paediatricians and gynaecologists who looked into the matter.”

The council report said, “There has been no procedural lapses and inadequate documentation which is probably due to absence of standard operating guidelines when managing such cases.”
