An unreliable narrator and a mystery come together in this movie.

2014’s Gone Girl made much pomp and show about having an unreliable narrator as lead, though others had done it before. Girl on the Train followed it up in 2016, but not with enough force to leave a cultural mark as Gone Girl had. Now, two years later, we have A Simple Favor.

Stephanie Ward (Anna Kendrick) is a mommy blogger who is friends with Emily Nelson (Blake Lively), and does something that most people would do — pick up Emily’s son from school one evening, as a favour. But Emily never turns up, and later ends dead. The events after this incident makes Stephanie question if she had known Emily at all.

Bridesmaids, Ghostbusters, and Spy director Paul Feig takes the helm for this movie, and it will be interesting to watch a man who has made memorable comedies take up a thriller. A Simple Favor, which also stars Henry Golding, is scheduled to release on September 14, 2018.
