A 15-year-old girl, who was cheated by two men at an ATM kiosk, committed suicide at her residence in Dwarka on Tuesday morning.

Police said the teenager was duped of Rs 29,000 by two men a day before she ended her life by hanging from a ceiling fan.

The girl’s family told the police the teenager had gone to withdraw money and had taken her father’s debit card. Her father, who works at an automobile company, had recently undergone a surgery and hence was bedridden and could not attend work. The family was going through a financial crisis.

According to the police, on Monday, around 11am, the Class 10 student had gone to the ATM near her house in Bharat Vihar near Dwarka.

“After withdrawing Rs 6,000, she saw two men standing behind her. The two asked her if she had collected the withdrawal receipt for her transaction. When she said no, they asked her swipe her card again. When the girl returned home, his father received two messages on his phone showing a withdrawal of Rs 29,000,” an officer said.

At her house, when her family asked her about the excess withdrawal, she reportedly denied any knowledge about it and told her father that she had withdrawn only Rs 6,000.

The family approached the Dwarka North police station and filed a complaint.

Deputy commissioner of police (Dwarka) Shibesh Singh said that an FIR was registered and the police also got CCTV footage of the ATM.

While police were trying to identify the two men, the teenager, according to her family members went back to the ATM kiosk on Tuesday morning with her elder sister and asked the security guard to help her identify the two men.

The teenager returned home later and kept to herself, retreating to her room. Her family members told police that half an hour later, when they went to check on her, they found her hanging from the ceiling fan.
