May 7 meeting
KEY ACTION Interviewed three engineering firms to design meter pits. Each council member scored the three firms. A decision is pending. No homes and a few businesses have a water meter on their property.
DISCUSSION The three engineering firms are Hammon Tree and Associates, North Canton, GPD Group of Akron and Civil Design Associates of New Philadelphia. Council members indicated all three engineering firms are high quality companies.
Council also passed an ordinance adopting an increase in water rates. Bills are sent quarterly. The increase for those out of the village will be from $95 to $120 quarterly. For residents in the village, the cost will increase from $70 to $79 quarterly.
OTHER ACTION
n Accepted the resignation of Richard Lebold, chairman of the zoning board and village planning commission, effective May 1. Council thanked Lebold for his many years of service and his community spirit to get a job completed.
n Heard the zoning committee is seeking a new chairman with the resignation of Richard Lebold. Also community member is needed to volunteer on the committee.
n Learned a camera was put into a storm sewer and found it was blocked with an object. It will be repaired as it is causing water to back up and floods the area. The hydrant on West Canal Street has been repaired.
n Heard May 13 through 18 is police recognition week. Mayor Rebecca Hubble thanked Bolivar Police Chief Randy Haugh, Sgt. Chad Hilty and part-time police officers for their service to the village.
n Passed an ordinance, by emergency, to enter into a new contract for trash pickup with Kimble Company of Dover, effective June 1. The new contract will increase trash pickup a $1 per month and $3 per quarter.
n Heard May is motorcycle awareness month. Be mindful of motorcycles on the area roads.
n Heard it is illegal to blow grass clipping into the streets. It is dangerous for motorcycles or those riding bicycles if they hit wet grass clippings.
n Heard Rachel Tolley resigned as crossing guard at the Intermediate school. She was hired in April. Applications for the position are available at village hall. The position pays $12.50 per day.
n Heard compost will be picked up in the village every Monday. Employees will not pickup bags of compost or 55-gallon drums filled with compost.
n Passed an ordinance for the policies and procedure manual which will include a job descriptions that were omitted.
n Gave approval for the Bolivar Sportsman Club to erect a temporary sign near the Industrial Park advertising an event. The signs will be erected on May 26. A banner advertising the Strawberry Festival will also be placed at the three -way stop at Fort Laurens and Route 212 in the village the end of June.

n The annual Strawberry Festival will be held June 14-16 in the village. Crafters are needed.
n Nominations for the Strawberry Festival queen are being accepted. A nominee must be age 65 or older and have a Bolivar zip code. Applications are available at village hall, on the Bolivar Main Street or Strawberry Festival websites.
n Police responded to 111 calls in April.
n A car show will be held July 21 on Canal Street.
n Village Administrator David Franks purchased 16 trees to be planted in the village to replace trees that have been removed. Thirteen trees have been planted. An Arbor day ceremony
was held May 9 at Hennis Care Centre at Bolivar.
