Jon and Kim Burgess joined Sen. Jim Stamas, R-Midland, Rep. Gary Glenn, R-Williams Township, Rep. Roger Hauck, R-Union Township, and Gov. Rick Snyder during a bill signing that dedicates a part of US-10 to their son, Ryan.

A section of US-10, spanning from North Stark Road to Northwest River Road in Sanford, is to become the “Marine Lance Corporal Ryan Burgess Memorial Highway.”

The bill was officially signed on March 8 and will go into effect in June.

Ryan Burgess, a Midland native and graduate of Meridian High School in Sanford, was killed by an improvised explosive device during his second tour in Iraq in December 2006. During his time in boot camp, he was awarded the Expert Rifle Marksmanship Badge.
