CHANDIGARH: A 40-year-old woman was killed and her 14-year-old daughter was injured after they were dragged by a speeding truck in Manakpur village on the Poanta Sahib road of Yamunanagar on Wednesday morning.

Sources said the truck dragged the mother-daughter duo up to 20 feet leaving the woman dead on the spot. The driver managed to escape which triggered the unrest among locals who torched the truck.

Police resorted to minor use of force to disperse the crowd. They have booked the truck driver in a case of rash and negligent driving causing death.

According to information, the incident occurred at 7.30am when Bindu and her daughter Komal were going to the former's place of work on a bicycle. Bindu had to reach her factory after dropping Komal to school.

As they reached Manakpur, four kilometer from Yamunnagar bus stand, a truck coming from opposite side knocked them down and dragged Bindu.

A seriously injured Komal was rushed to the civil hospital from where she was referred to PGI Chandigarh. Naveen Kumar, SHO of Sadar police station, said that a case has been registered at Sadar police station and Bindu’s body was sent for the postmortem examination.
