Report: Hatcher repeatedly punched, kicked another man

IOWA CITY — A Cedar Rapids man is accused of beating up another man at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City Tuesday.

Omarr J. Hatcher, 41, faces the charge of assault causing serious injury, a Class D felony punishable by up to five years in prison.

UI Police said witnesses saw Hatcher punching another man several times, knocking him down. The incident happened just before 9 a.m. Tuesday by Elevator A in a public area of the hospital.

“After the victim fell to the ground, the defendant kicked the victim in the face causing blood to the nose and mouth,” police reported.

Hatcher also is accused of kicking the man in the rib cage several times as the victim tried to protect himself by curling into the fetal position.

The report does not say whether Hatcher and the victim know each other.
