Power Misuse: Aide of congress leader “orders” Panchayat secretaries to attend meeting at his office
Ludhiana(Amarpreet Singh Makkar) – Despite the Congress led government claimed to have abolished the halqa incharge system, the political leaders claiming themselves as halqa incharges interfere in administration functioning. In a recent example, Rajinder Singh, officer on Special Duty (OSD) to Congress leader Satwinder Kaur Bitti called a meeting of Panchayat Secretaries at his office in Kohara. However the political leader or his aide has no authority to call the meeting of government officials. No senior government official was present in the meeting apart from Panchayat secretaries.According to information, OSD Rajinder Singh called Panchayat Secretaries of Sanhewal constituency to discuss about the upcoming Panchayat elections. Out of 11 Panchayat secretaries, nine attended the meeting. Talking to Daily Post, Rajinder Singh said that he has called the meeting to discuss the ward delimitation for upcoming Panchayat elections. He said that nothing was wrong in taking meeting. Rajinder Singh is also the close relative of Congress leader Satwinder Bitti. Bitti has contested MLA elections on Congress ticket from Sahnewal constituency but lost to Akali Dal MLA Sharanjt Singh Dhillon. Now, Bitti claimed herself as halqa incharge of Sahnewal constituency.
Panchayat Secretary Harjit Singh Malhotra said that he was invited by aide of congress leader. He has visited the office of Congress leader first time and was not aware of the agenda of meeting. He said that Rajinder Singh told them to streamline the work ahead of Panchayat Elections. Replying to a query, Panchayat Secretary said that being junior government employees they don’t have any option to deny to Congress leaders in power.
Akali Dal MLA from Sahnewal Sharanjit Singh Dhillon said that everyone knows that no political leader have authority to call the meeting of government employees. Despite several attempts, Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Aggarwal and DDPO Harkawaljit didn’t attend phone calls for comment.
