A 35-year-old man was shot at during a marriage function for allegedly opposing celebratory firing in Faridpur area of Bareilly.

A 35-year-old man was shot at during a marriage function for allegedly opposing celebratory firing in Faridpur area of Bareilly on Monday night, police said.

A case has been registered against three people and the main accused has been arrested, they added.

Superintendent of police (rural), Bareilly, Satish Kumar said Naitrapal Singh, who was attending the marriage function of his nephew in Chandaura village of Faridpur block in Bareilly, was allegedly shot at by Rajesh Singh when he opposed celebratory firing.

The SP said Rajesh was arrested on Tuesday morning and teams were conducting raids to nab the other accused.

Police have also recovered the country-made pistol used in the firing incident.

Naitrapal was admitted to district hospital where doctors said he was out of danger.

A police officer said on condition of anonymity that Rajesh was a history-sheeter and had six cases pending against him in different police stations of Bareilly.

Rajesh was produced before the court on Tuesday and sent to judicial custody.
