Motorists using Virginia 681 (Seminole Drive) in Amherst County should be aware of narrowed lanes on the bridge over Williams Run, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
VDOT has placed traffic control devices and narrowed the lane in each direction to 10 feet to shift traffic away from the outside edges of the structure while allowing the bridge to function as a two-lane structure.
Recent inspections unveiled deterioration in the bridge beams and alleviating some of the weight/pressure on them will allow the structure to function until more permanent repairs take place, VDOT said in a news release. The bridge is structurally safe, VDOT says.
Seminole Drive has a daily traffic volume of 4,135 vehicles, according to the department.
