The board in recent weeks interviewed candidates in closed sessions in searching for the division’s next chief to succeed Steven Nichols, who is retiring in June after five years in Amherst County. The position oversees a division of nine schools, nearly 4,000 students and roughly 700 employees.

The school board voted in February to hire Real Synergy, LLC, a consulting firm assisting with the hiring process. More than 600 responses from an online survey and feedback from 75 face-to-face interviews with stakeholders were received, consultant David Martin said in early March.

The May 14 meeting takes place at 4 p.m. in the public meeting room of the school administration office, 153 Washington St. in Amherst. The new superintendent will be present at the meeting, according to a notice on the division’s website.
