CUMBERLAND — A Cumberland area resident is facing felonious assault charges after allegedly firing a gunshot at Noble County deputies during a standoff Tuesday night at his Mitchell Road residence.
Frederick Ginn is facing two first-degree felony felonious assault charges.
No shots were fired by the deputies and Ginn was taken into custody unharmed, according to Sheriff Robert Pickenpaugh.
Ginn remained incarcerated in the Noble County Jail as of press time awaiting a hearing in the Noble County Court.
According to Sheriff Pickenpaugh, deputies were dispatched to the Mitchell Road home at approximately 9 p.m. Tuesday to conduct a well-being check.
On arrival, deputies approached the front door of the home to speak with Ginn. Deputies reportedly identified themselves multiple times to get Ginn to answer the door.
“When he (Ginn) came to the door, he brandished a firearm,” said Pickenpaugh. “After a brief standoff, a shot was fired at deputies. Mr. Ginn was eventually talked out of the residence and was taken into custody unharmed.”
Ginn was transported to the Noble County Jail. No injuries were reported to the deputies.
The incident is similar to a deputy-involved shooting in Guernsey County on Sunday when the subject of a well-being check in Fairview brandished a firearm.
The 73-year-old man was shot and killed by deputies after brandishing the firearm, according to Guernsey County Sheriff Jeffrey Paden.
The fatal shooting occurred approximately an hour after deputies arrived at the home, at which time the male engaged them in a stand-off that ended when deputies fatally shot him.
Authorities declined to identify the male prior to press time.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy was ordered by Guernsey County Coroner Dr. Sandra Schubert and conducted at the Licking County Coroner’s Office.
According to a press release from the sheriff’s office, deputies were dispatched to the residence at approximately 4:45 p.m. to transport the male to an undisclosed hospital after a doctor ordered treatment for threats allegedly made by the man to harm himself.
The doctor was reportedly from Barnesville Hospital.
The male initially spoke to deputies through a screened window, but deputies were eventually able to enter the home.
As deputies attempted to de-escalate the male’s behavior for nearly an hour, he ultimately brandished a firearm, pointing it at the deputies.
Deputies responded to the threat with deadly force.
The incident is being investigated by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation. Sheriff Paden referred all questions to the BCII.
A call to the BCII was not returned prior to press time.
