‘The Yellow Birds’ trailer: A gripping, modern war drama

Based on the book of the same name, The Yellow Birds opened to much acclaim at Sundance and was nominated for the festival's Grand Jury prize. This war film directed by French filmmaker Alexander Moors is about two young soldiers in the U.S. Army during the Iraq War, played by Alden Ehrenreich and Tye Sheridan. This is Ehrenreich’s second biggest role this year, with the young actor all set to take up the mantle of Han Solo in Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Tye Sheridan is fresh off his success from Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One. The movie follows the two soldiers through the terrors they face during war, their friendship, and the promise Ehrenreich’s character John Bartle makes to his friend’s mother.

The Yellow Birds also stars Toni Collette as Bartle’s mother and Jennifer Aniston as Daniel Murphy’s (Sheridan) mother, and is set for a May 17, 2018 release.
