Carrollton Fire Department will receive additional tax payer funding as voters approved an additional 2-mill levy.

CARROLLTON  By a substantial margin, voters have approved an additional 2-mill property tax to fund the village Fire Department.

Unofficial results from the Carroll County Board of Elections show the levy was approved Tuesday by a count of 301 to 141. Projected annual yield from the five-year levy is $140,000.

"One of our main purchases we will have in the near future is to replace our rescue vehicle," Fire Chief Shane Thomas said. "This is what goes out on auto accidents. It has the extrication tools on it."

The levy will cost the owner of a $100,000 home an additional $70 a year. The village Fire Department has two other property taxes. Thomas became chief in April.

Also in Carroll County, Brown Local School District voters renewed an emergency property tax for a 10-year cycle. The levy generates $523,000 annually for the school district. The unofficial vote count was 523 to 433. The property tax cost the owner of a $100,000 home about $138 a year.
