Bhopal: Youth Congress and CPM hold protest against hike in prices of petrol and diesel

Bhopal: Youth Congress and Communist Party of India (Marxist) held protest against the “astronomical rise” in the retail price of petrol and diesel on Tuesday. Youth Congress members led by its state president Kunal Chaudhary took out a protest march on bullock cart on Tuesday against prices hike of diesel and petrol. The price surpassed the Rs 80 per litre.

Youth Congress president Kunal Chaudhary said, “It is a failure of the union government as it could not regulate the prices in reasonable way. And ultimately the public is facing brunt.” CPI(M) condemned the government’s decision to increase the duties levied on petrol and diesel and called for their immediate rollback.

“Central government willingly allows lakhs of crores of rupees as tax waivers to top corporate houses of the country. The retail prices of petrol and diesel are now at the highest levels,” the CPI (M) said in a statement. “The party appeals to all other democratic and pro-people forces to also join in this action to force a rollback of excise duties,” the statement added, pointing towards the “unusual rise” in prices which also makes retail prices of petroleum products in India, the highest in South Asia.
