CMPD kicks off annual bike ride to D.C. to honor fallen officers
CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is getting ready to remember the nation's fallen officers. CMPD and other agencies will start their ride from Charlotte Wednesday morning to Washington, D.C. in honor of those lost.
The ceremony will be held at 8 a.m. with cyclists leaving for D.C. at about 8:15 a.m. The annual ride is all part of National Police Week.

Six CMPD officers, as well as 70 other cyclists from across the Charlotte area, will be making the ride to D.C. to honor Officer Sean Clark and Officer Jeff Shelton, as well as the 129 law enforcement officers that died in the line of duty in 2017.
The ride is more than 500 miles and will take about four days to complete. Once in Washington, D.C. all the cyclists will attend the National Candlelight Vigil on Sunday, May 13 to remember our nation's heroes.
The cyclists will represent 10 different law enforcement agencies.
