Lawyer assaulted in city court premises

In a shocking incident, a lawyer was allegedly assaulted by an under-trial prisoner (UTP) in the premises of the District and Sessions Judge Court here on Tuesday.

Reports said the accused identified as Jitendra Biswal, due to some reason, started abusing his own lawyer and thrashed him during the hearing of a rape case.

Following the incident, the Badagada police overpowered the accused and took him into custody. He was later shifted to the Jharpara Special Jail here. The police have started investigation into the matter.

The incident triggered resentment among the lawyers’ association members.
