Clare sweeps two from Harrison in Jack Pine Conference action

The Clare High School softball team took two from Harrison at home Tuesday as it won the opener 13-1 before claiming two 10-8 at the Brookwood Athletic Complex.

Abby Mellish won the opener as she allowed one earned run on three hits while walking one and striking out six in five innings of work.

Amber Hochstetler went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles while Mellish had two hits and drove in three. Peyton Pace also had two hits and drove in three while Monica McPhall had two hits and two RBIs.

Emily Lipovsky, Alexys Carlstrom and Sara Gillespie all had hits for the Hornets in the opener.

Peyton Hubel led the Pioneers (9-4, 5-1) in the nightcap as she had two hits, including a triple, and drove in four. McPhall went 4-for-4 with a double while Pace went 3-for-4 with a double.

Alex Craig got the win while Mellish got the save in the nightcap.

Harrison’s Sarae Weakland had two hits with Erika Cullen driving in two. Sierra Fredenburg, Taylor Craine and Rachel Rice also had hits for the Hornets in game two.
