While Priyanka Chopra surprised everyone in a stunningly imaginative number, Deepika’s gown was very routine red carpet, more Cannes than Met Gala.

Priyanka surprised everyone in a stunningly imaginative number but Deepika kept it safe and predictable.

At the Met Gala, there’s no room for what’s routine and faint-hearted. It’s a night that celebrates fantasy and rebellion. The annual fundraising event held at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art is fashion’s most spellbinding spectacle. This year too, celebrities made a splash on the red carpet wearing the most imaginative gowns paired with larger than life headpieces. Actors Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone also put their best foot forward, but while Priyanka surprised everyone in a stunningly imaginative number, Deepika kept it safe and predictable. Priyanka channeled her inner warrior in a breathtaking burgundy gown by American designer Ralph Lauren. A far cry from her last year’s trench coat with an endless train by the same designer that had spurred countless memes, the velvet gown was an apt pick for this year’s theme: Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination. The highlight of the gown was a stunning handcrafted mail coif with Swarovski crystals and beadwork that took more than 250 hours to complete. Vintage finger waves and dark red lips gave the finishing touch to her dreamy look.

Deepika Padukone’s red Prabal Gurung gown, on the other hand, was very routine red carpet, more Cannes than Met Gala. The gown looked spectacular in itself, but was not fantastical as Met Gala ensembles ought to be. Our vote goes to PeeCee for staying true to the spirit of the gala. Who would you vote for?
