Royal wedding 2018: Will Burberry design Meghan Markle’s wedding dress?

JUST over a week remains until the royal wedding 2018 and excitement is mounting over who has designed Meghan Markle’s wedding dress - but will the glamorous creation be the work of Burberry?

Speculation is mounting over who will be creating gown for May 19.

The big name contenders include Australian brand Ralph & Russo, Oscar de la Renta - and even Victoria Beckham.

Meghan, 36, could end up wearing two dresses like future sister-in-law the Duchess of Cambridge did with one to the church and another for the evening reception.

This means another favourite, Burberry’s Christopher Bailey, could also be in the running.

Fellow designer Henry Holland says the former Burberry chief executive, who is stepping down from the company at the end of 2018, would be a fitting choice.

He told Wedding Guest Extraordinaire podcast: “I would be quite excited if it was Christopher Bailey's final bow for Burberry.

“I think that would be a nice thing for him to do, she's worn for them for a long time.”

Meghan is said to be a long-term fan of the opulent British fashion brand.

While the world is still waiting to find out which designer will be responsible for making Meghan’s dress, the current favourite was revealed this week to be Ralph & Russo.

Sources have claimed Meghan has chosen the Australian brand to make one of her dresses.

They said: “It sounds a lot but this is the wedding of the year and hundreds of hours of manpower have gone into making it, almost all by hand.”

Husband and wife team Tamara Ralph and Michael Russo, who are behind the eponymous brand, are known for their Hollywood-esque designs and finishes.

This includes jewel-encrusted couture design and lavish embroidery.

Others have suggested Meghan’s royal wedding dress will cost £40,000.

Who else could design the wedding dress?

Erdem has been a bookmakers' favourite for some time.

Founded in 2005 by Erdem Moralioglu, the brand is known for its sweeping dresses and floral prints.

Also in the running is Jenny Packham, known for her beaded dresses.

She is described by Vogue as "one of the red carpet's go-to designers for dazzling feminine glamour”.

The brand is already a favourite with the Duchess of Cambridge.
