Eric Schneiderman’s fall from power as New York Attorney General was so swift on Monday evening that it’s tempting to bid good riddance and move on. But in resigning amid compelling and detailed accounts in the New Yorker that he abused four women, sometimes violently, Mr. Schneiderman said in a statement that, “While these allegations are unrelated to my professional conduct or the operations of the office, they will effectively prevent me from leading the office’s work at this time.
