AUSTIN, Texas — The Virginia Tech women’s golf team remains tied for fourth place after the second round of the NCAA tournament’s Austin Regional.

The Hokies, seeded 14th in the 18-team regional, shot a 5-over 293 on Tuesday and have a two-day total of 5-over 581. They are tied with Baylor, Oklahoma and Texas A&M.

Arkansas leads the field with a 21-under 555. Texas is in second with a 10-under 566. Florida is in third with a 2-over 578.

The top six teams and the top three individuals not on those six squads will advance from the three-day regional to the national championships in Oklahoma.

Virginia Tech’s Amanda Hollandsworth (Floyd County) is tied for fifth out of 96 golfers with a 3-under 141. She shot a 1-under 71 on Tuesday.

Tech’s Emily Mahar is tied for 18th with an even-par 144.

WOMEN’S GOLF

UVa in 2nd at NCAA regional

MADISON, Wis. — Eighth-seeded Virginia is in second place after the second round of the NCAA tournament’s Madison Regional.

The Cavaliers, who led the 18-team field after Monday’s first round, shot a 3-over 291 on Tuesday for a two-day total of 6-under 570.

Duke leads the field at 14-under 562. Old Dominion is in 13th place.

The top six teams and the top three individuals not on those six squads will advance from the three-day regional to the national championships in Oklahoma.

For UVa, Beth Lillie is in fifth place at 4-under 140, and Katharine Patrick is in ninth at 2-under 142.

W&L in 15th at NCAA tourney

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. — Washington and Lee shot a 47-over 339 and sits in 15th place out of 25 teams after the first round of the four-day NCAA Division III national championships.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Williams are tied for the team lead with a 19-over 311.

W&L golfers Liza Freed and Beth Ann Townsend are tied for 55th out of 130 players at 11-over 84.

MEN’S TENNIS

Generals recognized

W&L’s Harry Shepherd (13-3) has been named the ODAC player of the year.

He was joined on the All-ODAC first team by W&L’s Zack Ely, Thomas Harmon and March Zheng.

W&L’s Mitchell Thomas made the second team.

SOFTBALL

Hokie, Cavalier honored

Virginia Tech pitcher Carrie Eberle and UVa outfielder Allison Davis made the All-ACC second team.

Eberle, who was honored as a utility pick, is 11-15 with a 1.65 ERA and 120 strikeouts in the circle. She is batting .272 with eight homers and 16 RBIs. She is the only player in the ACC who is leading her team in both ERA and homers.

Davis batted .365 with 11 homers and 40 RBIs.

BASEBALL

Wake Forest 5, Radford 1

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Colby Higgerson scored on a fielder’s choice to put the Highlanders (22-26) up in the second inning, but it was all Demon Deacons from that point on.

Wake Forest (22-26) had six different pitchers combine to scatter six hits and strike out 12.

Matt Roth led Radford, going 2 for 4.
