IIM Indore’s journal among 4305 removed from UGC list

Indore: In a setback to Indian Institute of Management Indore, University Grants Commission (UGC) has removed the elite b-school’s journal from its approved list citing “low score”.“Indore Management Journal, which is published by IIM Indore, is among the 4305 journals which have been removed by the higher education regulator from its approved list,” said RD Musalgaonkar, former registrar of DAVV.

He said that the UGC removed these journals stating that they have been found to be of “poor quality”, providing “incorrect/insufficient information” or for making “false claims”. The UGC has received complaints about inclusion of poor-quality or questionable journals from faculty, researchers, other members of academic community as well as from press and media representatives.

“Considering these complaints, UGC’s standing committee re-evaluated every journal recommended by universities as well as those indexed by Indian Citation Index on filtering criteria. Based on careful scrutiny and analysis, 4305 journals are removed from the current UGC-approved list of journals because of poor quality/ incorrect/ insufficient information/ false claims,” a public note issued by the UGC reads.

The list of removed journals also contains three journals published by Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) and two by Dr BR Ambedkar University of Social Sciences, Mhow. Besides, there are 10 other journals published by different organisations or individuals from the city which have been removed from the UGC approved list of journals. “In total, 16 journals published from the city have been removed from the UGC list,” said Musalgonkar.
