Man dies after ironrod pierceshis body

The construction site’s contractor has been booked; no arrests so far

A 35-year-old labourer was killed after an iron rod pierced through his stomach inside a construction site in Ghazipur on Monday afternoon, the police said.

They have booked the contractor but are yet to make any arrest.

The deceased has been identified as Bobby Panchal, from Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Pankaj Singh said. The contractor, Nagesh Gupta, has been booked, he added.

The police received a call from a private hospital around 2 p.m. regarding Panchal’s death.

He was working at the construction site near the CNG Pump as a welder when an iron rod fell on him piercing through his body, the police said. He was immediately rushed to the hospital by the contractor where he succumbed to his injuries.

Mr. Singh said that the spot has been inspected by the crime team.

“A case has been registered under Sections 288 [negligent conduct with respect to pulling down or repairing buildings] and 304A [causing death by negligence] of the IPC . We are now obtaining CCTV footage to ascertain the sequence and negligence,” he said.
