Newly appointed state Congress president Kamal Nath saddled with the responsibility to ensure a turnaround in the Congress performance in the state assembly elections termed chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan as an incapable friend (Nalayak mitra).

“Shivraj Singh ji kahte hain wo mere mitra hain. Mai bhi kahta hun wo mere mitra hain. Par koi mitra layak hote hain aur koi nalayak hote hain(Shivraj Singh says he is my friend. I also say he is my friend but there are some friends who are capable and there are some who are incapable)”, said Kamal Nath in a Meet the Press programme organised by Central Press Club when asked if how did he viewed his friendship with chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan who lives hardly a furlong away from his residence at Shyamala Hills at Bhopal.

The state BJP was quick to react to Kamal Nath’s using adjective for Chouhan. The latter too reacted later.

State BJP vice-president Vijesh Lunawat said, “People’s mandate for Shivraj Singh Chouhan in the past two elections has proved who is capable and who is incapable. If Kamal Nath was capable he must tell people why Congress didn’t project him as a CM face ahead of assembly elections. The fact remains chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan who spends 18-20 hours among people doesn’t need a certificate of capability from a businessman.”

Lunawat said people would give a befitting reply to the Congress in the assembly elections for his using abusive word against chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. It showed the mindset of the Congress and its leaders as to how they are frustrated on being out of power for the past 15 years that they are using foul language against their rivals.

Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan posted a couplet on his Twitter page and made a satirical comment on Kamal Nath saying his friend considered himself as capable but capable was ‘Kamal ka phoot’ (Lotus flower- election symbol of BJP).

Kamal Nath said Congress will blow the poll bugle for assembly elections later this year from Mandsaur on June 6, the death anniversary of five farmers who were killed in a police firing during their agitation for better prices of agriculture produce and loan waiver.

Kamal Nath said farmers continued to commit suicide in Madhya Pradesh whereas the state government boasted of its achievements in agriculture sector and Krishi Karman awards.

He said corruption was institutionalised in Madhya Pradesh. Vyapam was a glaring example. A people’s commission that would be the first of its kind in India, would be instituted after Congress was voted to power, to probe the corruption during the BJP government including Narmada river scam.

On the Congress’ possible alliance with BSP, GGP and other regional parties he said he believed in forming a bigger front against BJP.

On candidates selection he said they would be selected by September.
