Evidence Stacks Against Cadillac ATS Sedan’s 2019 Return

It’s another nail in the ATS Sedan’s coffin, as GM’s fleet order guide so far omits the four-door version of Cadillac’s smallest car.

Questions about the ATS Sedan’s fate first cropped up following Cadillac’s failure to submit the vehicle to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s 2019 model year VIN logs.

Reported by our sister site, The Truth About Cars, back in December, the documents also suggested that the CT6 would drop its 2.0-liter engine.

For fans of the baby Caddy, though, the reports suggest that the ATS Coupe and ATS-V Coupe both appear to be staying in the lineup in 2019.

And for fans of the smaller sedan, there’s still hope. Back in December, Johan de Nysschen, Cadillac’s then-president, promised a CT5 sedan to target buyers in the $35,000 to $45,000 range, allowing the CT6 to go up market, and for an even smaller sedan to balance out the portfolio afterwards.

That promise, though, was made before De Nysschen’s ouster last month. De Nysschen’s time at Cadillac was marked by the production of many sedans and he’s been accused of missing the boat on SUVs, whose sales are skyrocketing lately, so the hope might not spring as eternally as it once did.
