DeKALB – Former Northern Illinois wide receiver Chad Beebe has with the Minnesota Vikings after attending the team's rookie minicamp last weekend, the Vikings announced Monday.
Beebe went undrafted and will join the Vikings' offseason program this month in hopes of landing a spot on the roster or practice squad.
Beebe played in 44 games at NIU and led the Huskies in 2017 with a 14.9 yards per reception average. His career was plagued by various injuries, but Beebe still found multiple ways to contribute. He finished with 64 career receptions for 930 yards and three touchdowns. Beebe was also utilized as a featured kick returner – he ranks in the top-10 in program history in punt returns (48) and punt return yards (329).
Each National Football League team must cut its roster to 53 players by September 1, per league rules. The Vikings roster now stands at 90 players.
PREP BASEBALL
Kaneland tops Morris: Kaneland defeated Morris 8-3.
Trailing by two in the fourth inning, Kaneland rallied and scored three runs to take a 4-3 lead. The Knights added four more insurance runs in the sixth. Angel Acevedo, Robbie Dudzinski and Nik Panico each drove in a run as the Knights finished with 14 hits.
Panico started on the mound for Kaneland, allowing two hits and three runs, while striking out three in five innings.
Kaneland (14-4-1) hosts Morris at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
PREP SOFTBALL
Sycamore commits too many mistakes against Morris: Sycamore lost to Morris 8-1.
Spartans starting pitcher Faith Reynolds gave up three earned runs on four hits with six strikeouts in six innings.
Sycamore (15-10) was plagued by mistakes as it committed seven errors.
"Faith pitched well for the most part," Sycamore coach Jill Carpenter said. "We didn't help her out defensively at all or at the plate. It's just one of those ugly games that you have to learn from quickly and wipe the slate clean for (Tuesday)."
The Spartans host Sterling at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
