BJP loses another key post in Palakkad municipality

PALAKKAD: The UDF led by the Congress has defeated the BJP with the support of the CPM when their no-confidence motion against the chairman of development standing committees was passed on Monday.
In the nine-member standing committee, BJP and Congress had four members each and the CPM one. The CPM like in the two previous committees joined the Congress to defeat the BJP.

The UDF has also given notice for no-confidence motion against the remaining education standing committee chairman headed by the BJP.

This is the third time the CPM had supported the Congress against the BJP in Palakkad municipality, the only one ruled by the BJP in the state.

In the 52-member municipal council, the BJP has 24 seats, UDF 17, CPM 9 and one each held by the Welfare Party and an independent.
