Ditched, girl holds dharna outside boyfriend’s house

A teen aged girl sat on a dharna for the entire day outside her boyfriend’s house at Erasama village, 40 km from here, on Saturday.

She claimed that she had left her parental home to marry her boy friend but the later ditched her, after exploiting her sexually.

Meanwhile, the boyfriend and his family fled their house before the arrival of the girl.

A resident of Raghunathpur village under Khurda district, the girl said that she came in contact with her boyfriend a year ago through a mobile missed call.

The accused identified him as Abhinandan Swain from Erasama. Repeated talks with girl brought the duo closer and they fell in love.

The boyfriend asked her to come to Bhubaneswar for marriage but when she reached at Bhubaneswar, the accused kept her in a rented house in Khandagiri locality.

The girl alleged that when she was pregnant and insisted on marriage, the accused skipped it on the plea that his family was against the marriage.

Later, the father of the accused who is a local political leader advised her to terminate the pregnancy.

The boyfriend followed his father’s wish and later got her pregnancy terminated in a private hospital.

But after that, the accused cut off all links with her.

Social activist Satya Prakash Mohanty came to the aid of the victim and took her to Khandagiri police station and lodged an FIR against the accused and his father. The police recorded the statement of the victim and have begun an investigation.

Meanwhile, locals at the village of the accused expressed their sympathy for the girl as hundreds gathered there while the girl squatted.

The victim girl lodged a complaint with the local Sarpanch and met members of a local women’s organisation.
