Cristiano Ronaldo injury: Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane provides major update

REAL MADRID star Cristiano Ronaldo did not hurt his ankle badly against Barcelona on Sunday.

That’s what Zinedine Zidane has revealed ahead of Real’s La Liga showdown against Sevilla on Wednesday night.

Cristiano Ronaldo was on the scoresheet at the weekend as Real held El Clasico rivals Barcelona to a 2-2 draw at the Nou Camp.

But he had to be subbed off at half-time after injuring his ankle in the process of scoring, with Gerard Pique catching him.

Ronaldo’s potential injury sparked fears he could miss Real’s Champions League final showdown against Liverpool later this month.

Zidane has now provided a promising update for Real Madrid fans worried about the Portuguese’s availability for that fixture.

"There is a sprain, but no big damage," he said at Tuesday’s press conference. "The ankle is stable.

"What is incredible is that he is already walking around perfectly so soon, thanks to motivation and ambition he has.

"We do not know when he will be back with the group, or if he will be back for Villarreal [final day of the season], but it would be perfect to have everyone ready for that final La Liga game."

Ronaldo has scored 42 goals in 40 appearances in all competitions for Real so far this season.

And he’ll be eager to return to fitness in time as Zidane’s side look to secure their third Champions League title on the spin.
