Seven injured after portion of banquet hall collapses

An FIR has been registered against the owner

An under-construction banquet hall in north-west Delhi’s Gujranwala Town collapsed on Monday evening. Seven persons trapped under the building debris were rescued and admitted to a hospital, the police said.

The police received a PCR call about the building collapse at 5.23 p.m. following which the police, Delhi Fire Service (DFS) and Delhi Disaster Management Authority rushed to the spot.

It was found that the rear portion of a building (Pritam Banquet) situated at B-54 of the industrial area at Old G.T. Karnal Road had collapsed.

“There was some construction work going on inside the building when the rear portion collapsed. Twelve labourers were inside the building during the incident. Seven of them were injured,” said Aslam Khan, DCP (North-West).

The injured are stable and are undergoing treatment.

“Five injured are getting treated at Sunder Lal Jain Hospital. The other two are admitted at Deep Chand Bandhu Government Hospital. In the incident, four private vehicles were also damaged,” added Ms. Khan.

Clearing debris

All teams were on job to clear debris till late in the evening.

“A first information report [FIR] has been registered under relevant sections of IPC against owner of the building,” said Ms. Khan.
