It looks like Lucy Hale's first post-Pretty Little Liars project has ended before it really began.

Hale announced on Twitter today that The CW has officially given Life Sentence the axe, tweeting, "Just got the sad news that Life Sentence will not be coming back for a second season... That chapter is closing before I want it to, but taking this as a life lesson. Things don't always work out in our favor & it's up to us what we do with it." She also claimed that she was shell-shocked by the decision because she was so emotionally invested in the story, but ultimately she said she was proud of what they accomplished with the series.

The decision to end this fledgling show might have shocked Hale, but it isn't all that surprising to the rest of us, considering its low ratings (it averaged a 0.15 rating in the 18-49 demo) and The CW's decision to push it to Fridays (never a good thing in the TV world) at the end of March.

Life Sentence will air its series finale on Friday, June 15 at 8/7c on The CW.
